Frequently asked questions

Does the reading order of a series matter?

It depends on the series. A detective series where each book is a closed case can be opened anywhere; a saga with one continuous plot cannot, and a prequel read first gives away what the main sequence is still uncovering. Each series page says which kind it is.

Publication order or chronological order?

Publication order is the default, because it is the order the author wrote in and the one that keeps the reveals intact. Where a series has a genuinely different internal chronology, the page offers both and says which one we recommend.

Where does the order come from?

Volumes, positions and years come from Wikidata (CC0). Where that data is wrong or incomplete — a missing volume, a companion filed as book two, a prequel numbered zero — an editorial correction overrides it, and the page is marked as checked.
