Rankings of the best books and book series in every category, built from open reader ratings merged across independent sources.
Right now that means 4,521 books and 802 series, scored from 1.8M reader ratings pulled from 3 independent sources and merged title by title. No editor picks the ranking; the numbers do.
38 of 38 categories currently hold enough titles to be a ranking rather than a curiosity, and a book needs at least 50 ratings before it appears at all. Both thresholds exist so that a list of three obscure titles never gets presented as a definitive top ten.
Sales are shown where we have them and never scored, because they measure marketing as much as writing. There are no sponsored placements, no advertising, and nothing on this site can be bought.
The “buy the book” buttons link to bookshops through affiliate programmes. A purchase earns BookRank a small commission at no extra cost to you, and it never affects a score or a rank.
The current snapshot is from October 21, 2026; ratings are re-fetched every 3 months and stored as a dated snapshot, which is where the trend arrows come from.

BookRank is edited by Marcin Grynienko, who founded it. He wrote the scoring formula, published in full on the methodology page; he checks by hand every reading order marked “Order checked by hand”; and he writes the recommendations — series he has listened to from start to finish.
