Volume numbering in the sources is incomplete — the order below follows publication years.

  • Robert A. Heinlein’s loose history of the coming centuries, told mostly in short stories and novellas written for Astounding from 1939 onwards; in 1941 the editor John W. Campbell printed Heinlein’s chart showing where each story falls.
  • The stories stand alone, and the easiest way in is The Past Through Tomorrow (1967), which collects them in the chart’s order.
  • Lazarus Long, the long-lived hero of Methuselah’s Children, returns in Time Enough for Love and the late novels.
