  • Eleven numbered books plus the half-numbered ones, and the halves are the thing to understand: Volume IV and 1/2, VI and 1/2, VII and 1/2 and VII and 3/4 are short companion books published between the novels, and they read best exactly where their numbers put them.
  • Mia narrates all of it as a diary in real time, so nothing here works out of order — she is fourteen in the first book and married in Royal Wedding, which came nine years after what everyone assumed was the ending.
  • The films share the first book's premise and almost nothing else.

How this plan is calculated

The plan comes from the pages and ratings of each volume: we split the series into stages of about three weeks’ reading, size each break to the stage before it, and read the chance of finishing from how many readers rate the last volume compared with the first. How we work out the plan →
