What is new and already good

65 of these have cleared the ordinary bar of 50 ratings; 121 carry an early score from 20 to 49 ratings. The newest arrival is “A Court of Splintered Harmony” by Sarah J. Maas.

An early score uses the same formula as everything else, pulled harder toward the category mean until more readers vote. The chip on a row says how much of the number is the readers’ own. Method →

A mood or a theme opens the book finder, narrowed to books from the last twelve months. The number beside each is the count of titles; a series counts once. A country leads to the Atlas: to that country’s page, with the best-rated new books by its authors.

No score here on purpose. These books have too few ratings to judge, so the only honest number is how many people are waiting.

Out in the last three months

Newest first. The number is the book’s place among all 186 new releases.

Best rated: 24 of 186

What does “early score” mean?

The book has between 20 and 49 reader ratings. It gets a page and a place on this list, but it does not enter category rankings until it reaches 50, like every other book.

How is this list built?

From reader ratings only: the same Bayesian score as everywhere on the site, with releases of the last twelve months and at least 20 ratings. Sales, marketing and prizes do not enter it. Refreshed weekly.
