“The Shepherd’s Crown” is Terry Pratchett’s last Discworld novel, a warm farewell full of witches and of his compassion for ordinary people. It is the fifth Tiffany Aching book, with elves and grief beneath the comedy, so it speaks most to readers who have followed her from the start. Some readers feel that it stands well short of his best and that the text shows it never received its final polish.
