Our view
“Maskerade” sends two Discworld witches to the opera and has a great deal of fun at the expense of both. The send-up of “The Phantom of the Opera” is broad, the mystery keeps readers guessing, and as usual in the witch books the characters matter more than the plot. Some find that the borrowed story cramps things and lets stretches drag, yet the finale, funny and unexpectedly tender, repays the wait.
