Our view
“Hogfather” shows Discworld at full stretch. It is a comic fantasy of gods, assassins and bumbling wizards with something serious to say about why people need to believe. Death and Susan give the book its heart, the wizards supply the nonsense, and there is a joke in almost every line. Some readers find it a touch long, and it is the twentieth novel of the series, but admirers count it among the funniest and warmest.
