“Trunk Music” gives Harry Bosch a dependable fifth case, opened by a body in a car trunk and worked by a squad that has changed around him. Bosch returns from enforced leave to a new lieutenant and stays as stubborn as ever. Some readers tire of phrases the prose keeps repeating; some have little interest in the Mafia strand or in his latest troubled romance. The story itself holds up.
