Our view
“The Dark Hours” is a police procedural of a high order, tightly plotted and easy to read. Connelly’s fourth novel with Renée Ballard keeps the Los Angeles detective at the centre, with Harry Bosch back as well. Some readers find its pandemic-era setting uncomfortably close, and there are those who feel the author’s politics intrude on the story. For readers who enjoy the mechanics of detection, this is the genre done properly.
