Our view
“Desert Star” is a solid, traditional detective novel, lifted by the partnership between Bosch and Ballard. Connelly writes economically and keeps the police work grounded, which gives the key scenes their impact. The 24th Bosch novel finds him near the end of his career and working with Renée Ballard as an equal. It keeps to the conventions of the genre and shows why they last.
