Our view
“Jarka Ruus” is a solid opening to “The High Druid of Shannara” trilogy, set twenty years after “The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara”. Some readers enjoy its nods to earlier books and a world where technology is gaining ground, as if the setting were moving forward. Others find the recurring characters reintroduced clearly enough for newcomers, yet would still rather begin the saga from the start.
