Our view
“The Spine of the World” sets Drizzt aside and makes Wulfgar’s battle with his own demons a story worth following. Salvatore runs it alongside the tale of a farm girl who has caught her lord’s eye, weaving the two with care. Some readers find the pace slower, the mood at times very dark and the second plot long in showing its relevance. Others welcome its move away from the casual monster-slaying of earlier volumes.
