Our view
The third Wheel of Time novel deliberately steps away from its central hero: Rand is off the page for long stretches while his companions and the Aes Sedai carry the story. Many readers find the series richer for it, with fuller characters and a wider canvas, though those expecting Rand at the centre may be disappointed. Some find the first half slow and the ending worth the wait. Best read in order.
