“New Spring” is a prequel best enjoyed by those who already know “The Wheel of Time”. Its pleasure lies in meeting Moiraine and Lan before they are the people the main series shows, and in learning how their bond began. Although short, it still builds to a proper finale. Much of the satisfaction depends on knowing what these two will become, so it serves better as a companion than as a starting point.
