Our view

“Spirit Bound” is a purposeful fifth Vampire Academy book: a clear plot line, plenty of turns and a closing twist. Some readers who thought the fourth volume dragged find this one moves with far more direction, and the strand about Rose and Dimitri supplies the heartbreak. As the penultimate instalment it leans entirely on the earlier ones, so it is no place to begin.
