Our view

“Vampire Academy” sets a boarding-school story among vampires and their royal politics, held together by friendship as much as by romance. The tone mixes sharp humour with a darker undercurrent, and some readers finish it impatient for the next volume. As the first of six books it is mostly a beginning, so it suits those happy to commit to a series.
