“The Sentinel” marks a handover in the “Jack Reacher” series, the first co-written with Andrew Child, and keeps the familiar hard-hitting action. Reacher drifts into a town, helps a stranger and ends up facing ransomware hackers. Some readers enjoy it as the usual romp; others find the explanations long-winded, the viewpoints too many, the fights recycled and Reacher himself more violent and less funny than before. Longtime followers will want to judge the change for themselves.
