Our view
“The Sixth Man” is a dependable fifth King and Maxwell novel, built around a murder case that opens onto a conspiracy. David Baldacci keeps Sean and Michelle’s partnership at the centre. Some readers enjoy the new characters this volume brings in, though one figure’s near-superhuman intellect strikes them as hard to believe and too close to a character from another Baldacci series. At nearly five hundred pages, it is best read after the earlier books.
