Our view
“The Wise Man’s Fear” continues Kvothe’s story on a far larger canvas: more than a thousand pages that mix academy life, a long journey and encounters with the Fae. It is a book to sink into rather than race through, and readers attached to the first volume get much more time in its world. Some, though, tire of the lengthy description and the amount of sex, and miss answers to the earlier book’s mysteries.
Worth knowing The second day of Kvothe’s story, published in March 2011, four years after The Name of the Wind and about as long again, at roughly a thousand pages. It takes him far from the University, through travels and training that some readers count as the high point and others as a detour. The third and final day, The Doors of Stone, still has no publication date.
