Our view
“The Vampire Lestat” hands the telling to Lestat himself, and the series is livelier for it. Where the first volume was narrated by Louis, here Lestat gives his own account of his past, and some readers enjoy it considerably more than its predecessor. The reach widens into myth and the mood stays dark, across more than six hundred pages. Best taken as the second step in “The Vampire Chronicles” rather than a starting point.
