Our view
“The Ghost Brigades” returns to the Old Man’s War universe without its first hero: the story moves to the special forces and a new lead, Jared Dirac, and is told through several viewpoints. Scalzi’s quick pacing and sharp, funny dialogue are intact, and the questions the book raises about engineered soldiers give it weight. Readers who wanted John Perry back may miss the warmth of the first book, so expect a different kind of sequel.

About the book
The Ghost Brigades is a science fiction novel by American writer John Scalzi, the second book set in his Old Man's War universe. In contrast to the first part of the series, it is written multiperspectively as a subjective third-person narrative with Jared Dirac being the main point of view character.
