Our view
The third Old Man’s War novel returns to John Perry as narrator and adds a larger dose of politics to the action, which some readers count as a gain. Scalzi’s quick, funny dialogue is intact, and the fighting never crowds out the characters. Some find the plotting more heavy-handed than before. It is a light, clever read, best taken after the first two volumes.
