“Salamandastron” keeps several quests in the air at once and ties them off neatly: Redwall adventure at its most assured. War and friendship drive the story, told with a light touch. Some readers find Mara, the young badger, trying at first, but like her better as she matures. It is classic adventure with animal heroes, and the fifth Redwall book published.
