Our view

“Legend” is quick, uncomplicated dystopian adventure: the pace never slackens, the action scenes are its strongest suit, and the two alternating narrators are easy to tell apart. Some readers are less convinced by the romance, which they find thin, and by a plot that signals its turns well in advance; to some the teenage leads also read older than their years. Entertaining rather than profound, and a solid start to a series.
