Our view

Richelle Mead’s “Bloodlines” hands the world of “Vampire Academy” to a new narrator, the alchemist Sydney Sage, and keeps faith with it. Some readers find the opening slow before the story picks up towards the end, and others are uneasy about what they describe as grown men dating schoolgirls. Sydney already appeared in three “Vampire Academy” novels, so readers of that series will know her.
