Our view

Character comes first in “The Golden Lily”, a light and funny second “Bloodlines” novel centred on Sydney and Adrian. Some readers enjoy watching Adrian try to win Sydney’s attention while she misses every sign, and are left reeling by the ending. Some note that the plot takes a back seat: a few enjoy the easy, low-suspense pace, others find the events hard to remember afterwards.
