Our view

“The Hidden Oracle” is a funny, light-footed opening to Rick Riordan’s Apollo series. The whole story stays with a god reduced to a mortal teenager, and keeping to that single viewpoint is the change from the earlier books; some readers find it quick and very amusing. Others feel the charm of the Percy Jackson novels is thinner here, and newcomers do better to begin with those.
