Our view

“Wild Magic” is a light, funny fantasy about a girl whose magic lets her speak with and heal animals. It begins Tamora Pierce’s Immortals quartet, and some readers enjoy the likeable characters, the capable women and the return of familiar faces from the Alanna books. Some place it nearer middle grade than young adult: simply written, with a plot that holds. The shifts in point of view briefly confuse some readers.
