Our view
“Dragonsinger” is a gentle, small-scale school story set on Pern, following young Menolly through her apprenticeship at the Harper Hall. Some readers enjoy its everyday texture of stern teachers, bullies and fire lizards and prefer this quieter mode to the main Pern novels. Others note that Camo, a character with an intellectual disability, is described in words that have dated badly, yet find real empathy in how the story treats him.
