Our view

Everything in this novel leans on its ending, and the ending delivers: readers who struggled through the first half report being surprised and moved by how the twist is revealed. On the way there, some find the telling confusing and others tire of the teenage narrator’s self-absorption. It works best for younger readers, and for anyone who does not mind a sad close.
