Our view
“Marked” is a vampire boarding-school opener that delivers exactly the comforts of its genre, no more and no less. Sixteen-year-old Zoey is uprooted from her old life, sent to the House of Night and soon turns out to be anything but an ordinary fledgling, while something is clearly wrong at the school. Teenage readers are its natural audience; some who loved it at that age say the long series lost them a few volumes in.
