Our view
“The White Dragon” turns the original Pern trilogy into a coming-of-age story, and its portrait of adolescence rings true. Jaxom, a young lord, and Ruth, the undersized dragon no one expected to live, carry the book. Some readers who return to it as adults find the hero arrogant, and some feel the first half drags. It completes the first trilogy and builds on both earlier novels.
