“Dragonquest” picks up Pern seven years after “Dragonflight” and turns on how a tradition-bound society copes with change. Some readers return to it as a childhood favourite and take its 1971 manner as period flavour. Others object strongly to the way it writes women and sex, with scenes they see as coercion, and some find the plot too slow to hold them.

About the book
Dragonquest is a science fantasy novel by the American-Irish author Anne McCaffrey. It is the sequel to Dragonflight, set seven years later and the second book in the Dragonriders of Pern series. Dragonquest was first published by Ballantine Books in May 1971.
