“The Raven Scholar” packs a murder mystery, a deadly contest, politics and a family drama into one epic fantasy and ties them together well. Some readers love all of it, from the world to the prose. Others find the detail excessive and the characters’ reactions overdone, and some call it fairly ordinary fantasy beneath the careful construction. This book begins a trilogy, “Eternal Path”, whose second volume is already announced.

About the book
The Raven Scholar is a 2025 fantasy novel by Antonia Hodgson. It is the first book of the planned Eternal Path trilogy. The novel was a finalist the 2026 Hugo Award for Best Novel and Compton Crook Award. A sequel, The Fox in Winter, has been announced for release on 5 October 2027.
