“Kings of the Wyld” plays old-fashioned fantasy with affection and a grin. A band of ageing mercenaries goes back on the road to rescue one member’s daughter, and the book gives them dangerous monsters and battles on a grand scale. The dialogue sounds like people actually talking, the humour sits even in the descriptions, and a few moments between the jokes hurt. For anyone who wants adventure with heart and no solemnity.
