Our view
Ada Palmer’s “The Will to Battle” carries the “Terra Ignota” quartet toward war with the same intellectual ambition as the first two books. Its world edges closer to open conflict, and Mycroft Canner still holds the narration. Some readers find the narrator’s ruminations long-winded from about the midpoint, while others count the difficulty as part of the reward. It belongs firmly after “Too Like the Lightning” and “Seven Surrenders”.
