Our view
“Inversions” is a Culture novel in disguise: two tales of court intrigue, a king’s physician and a ruler’s bodyguard, in a world that looks medieval. Very little is spelled out, and working out what lies behind the pair is the pleasure; anyone who already knows the Culture will catch far more of it. Some readers single out the two leads, the woman doctor above all, and a tension that builds to the climax.
