Our view
Baum’s “Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz” is an inventive fourth Oz adventure that brings back the humbug Wizard of the first book. Some readers enjoy the odd peoples met along the way, for them the series’ real charm; others find it a string of episodes with little plot and a long wait to reach Oz. With John R. Neill’s illustrations, it will please young readers and Oz completists more than newcomers.

It was published on June 18, 1908 and reunites Dorothy Gale with the humbug Wizard from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900).
