Our view
“An Offer From a Gentleman” is the Bridgerton novel that plays openly at being Cinderella, and the fairy-tale frame suits its light touch. The question of who the heroine really is gives Benedict’s love story a small mystery to run on, which some readers count among its pleasures. Some who arrive from the television series find the Benedict of the page quite unlike the one on screen.
