Editor’s note American writer of funny, chatty novels for teens and adults. The Princess Diaries, in which ordinary New York teenager Mia Thermopolis learns she is heir to the throne of Genovia, is the most read and became a hit film, yet rates lowest here. Her Mediator series, about Suze, who sees ghosts and shares her bedroom with one, rates higher, peaking with Twilight, its sixth book, unrelated to Stephenie Meyer’s.
