Our view

“Shadowland” offers a light, funny ghost story for teenagers, with a heroine who grows more interesting as it goes. Meg Cabot begins “The Mediator” series here, seven books in all, with her own slightly different picture of the afterlife. Some readers find the plot enjoyably absurd and wish the ending had more weight; others point out how closely it follows “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”.
