Our view
“The Drowned Cities” is a grim, unflinching young adult novel about war, soldiers and survival in a post-apocalyptic America. It returns to the world of “Ship Breaker”, and some readers find it more compelling than that first book, especially for a character carried over from it. Others find it dull, with little happening even in the middle. Older teenagers and adults who do not mind a bleak setting are its natural audience.
