Our view

“Shadow of the Giant” pays off the political manoeuvring of the earlier Shadow books and closes most of their story arcs convincingly. The international intrigue is balanced by a tender family thread around Bean and Petra, which gives the volume its emotional weight. Some readers feel a few characters blunder mainly because the plot needs them to. As the fourth novel of the series, it is no place to start.
