Our view
“Streets of Laredo” is a brutal, humane sequel to “Lonesome Dove” in which Woodrow Call, years later, hunts a train robber for the railroad. Larry McMurtry keeps the same wide, sympathetic narrative voice, and the book is above all a study of character. Some readers find it smaller in scale than the first novel and its ending drawn out. Chronologically it closes the story, so it belongs after “Lonesome Dove”.
