Our view
“Comanche Moon” is a sweeping, unsparing Western that follows Gus and Call through their years as Texas Rangers. Written last but set second in the timeline, it moves between several viewpoints, including those of the Comanche. Some readers welcome new figures such as Inish Scull, a Harvard professor turned Ranger, and the sense of an era closing, though some are troubled by its extreme violence, much of it aimed at women; others never get invested.
