Our view
“All the Pretty Horses” is a coming-of-age western with a plain outline and nothing simple underneath it. A teenage cowboy rides into Mexico with his best friend and falls in love, but the novel is far more than a love story. Sparse punctuation and blunt dialogue strike some readers as carefully polished and others as tiresome, and some find the first half repetitive.

Where the score comes from
The sources average 8.1 across 412 ratings — not yet many, so the reader vote carries 74% of the weight and the rest pulls toward the Rankings average of 8.3. That is how 8.3 comes out. A further +0.10 comes from the small bonus for major awards.
