Our view
“Renegades” delivers the series’ familiar mix of long odds and the comic bickering of Bishop and Skippy. The seventh “Expeditionary Force” book finds the worn-out crew of the Flying Dutchman heading home for a rest that does not come. Some readers find the author’s love of technical fine print hard to keep track of, here as in earlier volumes. Light, familiar, and best read in sequence.

About the book
The battle-scarred star carrier Flying Dutchman is finally on her way back to Earth, after an exceptionally successful series of missions that have once again saved the world. The ship needs a serious refit, and her exhausted crew just wants a break from constant clandestine warfare against a vicious and superior enemy. Wishes come true, right? Not for the Merry Band of Pirates.
