Our view
“Red Prophet” extends “The Tales of Alvin Maker”, Card’s alternate-history fantasy, in a second volume that won the Locus Award. It was also shortlisted for the Hugo and the Nebula. Some readers note that Alvin Miller comes back only after several chapters, and that the appeal of “Seventh Son” returns with him; they also single out Card’s phrasing. Others are not won over by the series, without calling the book bad.
