Our view

The third Stormlight Archive novel is a test of stamina: 1,243 pages, 122 chapters and 14 interludes. The reward is a final act of real scale, told from many points of view at once, which pays off the long build-up. It is no place to start the series, and it suits readers who already love this dark, war-torn world and are happy to stay in it for weeks.

Worth knowing The third Stormlight Archive book, published in November 2017, centres its flashbacks on Dalinar Kholin and reveals the worst thing he ever did. At over twelve hundred pages it is among the longest books in the series, and it is split into two volumes in several translations. Read Edgedancer, a novella set between the second and third books, beforehand, as Sanderson’s own reading order suggests.
